Logging in

If you are a registered user of Playray and have logged in with your nickname, you can start playing right away.

In case you haven't registered yet, the game will assign you a random visitor nickname. A wavy line (~) will appear automatically before your name in order to inform other players that you are not a registered player. By this we make sure that your nickname won't be confused with those of registered users.

Starting the game

The game has three levels of difficulty: easy, normal, and difficult. When you move mouse on your chosen level of difficulty, the 10 all-time best games played at this level of difficulty will be displayed on the screen. Click the button to start the game.

Playing

The purpose of the game is to find all cow patties from a meadow that has been marked with squares. Each square stands for an unexplored area. Start the game by clicking any square and a part of the meadow will be shown. Part of the meadow shown is green and clean, but some of the squares opened are marked with a number 1-8. The number indicates how many cow patties can be found from the 8 adjacent squares. Your task is, on the basis of these numbers, to infer which ones of the unexplored squares still contain a cow patty and which ones are clean.

When you are sure that there is a cow patty in a certain square, you can mark the square by clicking the right mouse button or spacebar. Then a small, red flag appears on the square. If you want, you also can remove the mark by clicking the right mouse button again on the square. The game continues until all cow patties have been found and clean squares (the ones not containing a cow patty) have been explored. The more quickly you will be able to explore the meadow, the higher your rank on the score list will be.

The game is over immediately if you try to explore a square that has a cow patty in it. In this case the square in question turns red and the game shows all other squares that contained a cow patty.

An example of drawing a conclusion

The situation is the following in the top right corner of the game area: four unexplored squares.

Let's take a look at the square outlined in red. The number in the square indicates that there is one cow patty somewhere around the square. Because the other seven squares around this square have already been explored, it is clear that the one cow patty indicated by the number must be right above the square that is being explored.

A square that is sure to contain a cow patty will be marked with a flag.

Let's take another look at the square outlined in red: according to the square, there is again one cow patty in one of the adjacent squares. This cow patty has, however, already been found (it was just marked with a flag), so the square right from the square that is being explored must be clean.

Let's explore the square in question by clicking it with the left mouse button. The number 2 is revealed. Because there are only two unexplored squares around this square (the other one of which has already been marked as a cow patty), the other adjacent square must also contain a cow patty.

We mark the square with a flag and then take a look at the square below that also has the number 2 on it. There are three unexplored squares around the square in question, two of which have already been marked as containing cow patties. Because the number 2 informs us that there are only 2 cow patties around the square, the third square must be clean.

Let's explore the square. Now the entire open area has been cleared.

It is not always possible to figure out if a certain square is clean or not. Sometimes you just have to guess.
