1. General

You can play various Playray single player games against other players in a special tournament mode. Tournaments can have one or several rounds. If there are several rounds, the best players advance to the next round and the winner of the tournament is the one who makes the best score in the last round. If two players get the same score, the one that made the score earlier wins.

You can easily create new tournaments for others to join. There are several options for customizing the tournament. There are also presets available for fast and easy tournament creation.

Entry fee
You need to pay a participation fee to join a tournament. The currency of the entry fee is Playray Chips. There can also be occasional free tournaments set by Playray administrators.

Prize
Winners of a tournament will be awarded in chips according to the prize distribution. There can also be special Playray tournaments with additional prizes.

The total prize pot consists of all the tournament fees paid minus the rake. Rake is a small percentage of the total sum of the fees and will be used to cover costs of the service.

Prize distribution
Prize distribution of a tournament may vary. Typical ones are:

• Winner Takes All: the whole prize will go to the winner of the tournament
• 50/30/20: the winner gets 50%, the second place gets 30 % and the third will receive 20 % of the total prize amount. If the tournament gets only two participants, the third place prize will be dealt to the winner.

The prize distribution of a tournament is always visible in the tournament detail information page.

2. The Tournament Browser

To find upcoming tournaments use the Games section tournament page. With this tournament browser you can search and join tournaments. You can also invite and challenge other users to tournaments and create new tournaments. There are different filters you can apply to tournaments to sort and filter them.

To find your own tournaments, navigate to Mypage / Tournaments. This is your personal tournament browser. Here you can browse through your current and upcoming tournaments and also tournament history and statistics. To see other users' tournament statistics, you can visit their personal pages.

Your tournament information is divided into three main categories:

My Current Duels
In this view you can see all the duels you are currently taking part in. Also challenges received or sent are shown here. (See the Duel section of this help for more information.)

My Current Tournaments
In this section you can access your tournament information. You see all the tournaments you are participating and also all the invites to upcoming tournaments. You can see the basic information of each tournament:

• Tournament Name
• Game and game difficulty level
• Fee: The entry price. The price will be deducted from your account once you sign up on a tournament.
• Prize: Note that before the tournament has begun the Prize is calculated based on the current amount of participants.
• Status: Status line will tell whether you have signed on the tournament or not. If there are restrictions for joining, they are shown here, For example, if you rank is too low or high to join.
• Players Signed up: Amount of signed players and total amount of slots are shown.
• Sign up ends in: Shows how much time is left until the possibility to sign up for the tournament ends.
• Current rank: If you have joined the tournament and the tournament has started your current rank in tournament is shown.
• Round ends in: Shows how much time is left until current tournament round ends.

Clicking a tournament name in the tournament view will open a detailed view of the tournament. In this view you can see additional information about the tournament, for example the participating players, the current toplist and a greeting from the tournament creator. You can also withdraw from an active tournament through this view if you for whatever reason wish to do so. If you withdraw before the tournament has begun, your entry fee will be returned.

There is also a discussion page for each tournament in progress. Use this page to discuss details of the tournament with other participants.

My Past Statistics
In the statistics page you can browse through past tournaments and duels. There are different filters you can apply to tournaments to sort and filter them.

Link bar
The link bar is located at the bottom of the tournament browser. You can access these functions through the link bar (depending on your current view):

• Challenge: You can challenge another user to a duel by entering his/her name here.
• Create a new tournament: Opens a new dialogue for creating a tournament.
• View all tournaments: This is a link to the Games section tournaments page. Here you can find all tournaments available in Playray.
• Duel and tournament settings: Opens the settings dialogue.
• Help: Opens this help page.

3. Participating In A Tournament

Joining a tournament
Upcoming tournaments are listed in the games section tournaments page. Once you have found a tournament that you would like to participate in, open the detailed view of the tournament by clicking it. Click the "Join Tournament" -button to join the tournament. If you are eligible to join and there is still room in the tournament, you are added to the participants of the tournament and the tournament fee is deducted from your account. If the tournament is cancelled due to too few participants the fee will be returned.

Tournament start time
The tournament will start once the sign-up deadline has been reached or the tournament gets full, e.g. there is no more free slots left in the tournament. If the tournament consists of multple rounds, the end time of the first round is calculated by adding the round time to sign-up deadline.

Inviting others to a tournament
If the tournament has not begun yet, you can invite other people to the tournament. Clicking the "Invite someone to tournament" link will open an invitation dialogue. Note that sending a invitation does not reserve a slot in the tournament, so it is possible that the invited person will not be able to join the tournament if there are no more slots left.

Playing a tournament game
Once you have joined a tournament and the tournament has begun, you can play a tournament game by clicking the "Play tournament game" button in the tournament browser. You will be redirected to the game. Accessing the game through other means, such as through our various game lists on the site, will not count towards your tournament score.

While playing a tournament game, there will be a notification visible above the game applet showing the tournament name and time remaining for the current round. Note that if you make a score after the round has finished, the score will be omitted when calculating the results.

Withdraw
After joining a tournament it is possible to withdraw from the tournament. Note: the entry fee will be paid back if you withdraw from the tournament before the tournament has begun.

Winning a tournament
If you win a tournament, the prize will be added to your account. Note that for technical reasons there might be small a delay before the prize can be transferred.

Tournament Settings
There are several settings you can change in the settings popup page in the tournament browser. Use the link in at the bottom of the tournament browser to open the settings dialogue.

4. Duelling

A duel is a two player single-round tournament. You can't join to a duel in same manner as in a tournament. To initiate a duel you need to challenge another player or accept challenges from other players.

Challenging other players
When challenging a player you set the game, ante, duration and the game difficulty level. You can also send a short message to the person you want to challenge.

Replying to Challenge
If you have been challenged to a duel, the challenge will show up in your Tournament browser. Use the Reply button to reply to a challenge. In reply popup you can accept the challenge or decline it.

Withdraw from duel
It is possible to withdraw from duel. This is possible only before duel becomes active. Duel is active when both players have played at least one game in the duel. If you withdraw from duel the ante will be returned to your account.

Ante
Ante is the "stake" or "bet" both players will pay when playing a duel. Note that a rake will be deducted from the pot before paying the winner the sum of antes.

Winning a duel
If you win a duel, the prize will be added to your account. Note that for technical reasons there might be a small delay before the prize can be transferred.

5. Organizing A Tournament

Tournament presets
The absolute minimum effort you must expect to set up a tournament is giving the tournament a name, selecting the game to play and its difficulty level and selecting one of the available tournament presets. Note that not all games have difficulty levels.

Tip: coming up with an exciting (and humorous) tournament name can boost the participation a lot.

Customizing tournament
If you wish, there are further details you can tweak to create a tournament just the way you want it. You can access these options by clicking the bar titled "STEP 2: ADVANCED SETTINGS":

• Entry Fee: set up a suitable entry fee. Note that you are automatically joined to any tournament you create, so you need to pay this fee also. An estimate of the total prize to be divided between winners is also shown here.
• Rounds: set up amount of rounds in the tournament.
• Round time: select suitable round time.
• Sign up time: select suitable sign up time from pop-up.
• Players: set up maximum amount of participants in the tournament. If the tournament has more than 1 round, you need to set up a player amount for each round. This is the amount of top-scoring players that will move over to the next round.
• Prize distribution: set up how prize is distributed among top players in the tournament.
• Welcome message: you may type a short welcome message for players in the tournament.
• Password: you can set up a password for the tournament participation. This way you can directly control who can participate to the tournament.
• Ranking limits: limit the participators to certain ranking levels.
• Limit tournament to: You can set up tournaments to your friends or to your clan only.

Tournament Participation Fee
Creating a tournament is free, but participating to a tournament costs. Tournament creators are added to tournament participators by default when creating a tournament. The participation cost can be set by the tournament creator, and will directly reflect the tournament prizes. Playray Administrators will be able to set up free tournaments with no fee.

6. Terms Used

FEE
Fee is the participation fee to join a tournament. All the fee minus rake is put to the prize pool. There can also be free tournaments set by Playray administrators.

ANTE
Ante is the "stake" or "bet" both players will pay when playing a duel. Note that rake will be deducted from the pot before paying the winner the sum of antes.

RAKE
A small percentage of the total sum of the fees will be used to cover costs of the tournament service. Therefore the total sum of prizes is usually slightly smaller than the sum of all participation fees in a single tournament.

PRIZE
Winner(s) of a tournament will get a prize. The tournament system will use Playray chips as fee and prize currency. There can also be official Playray tournaments with additional prizes.

WITHDRAW
After joining a tournament it is possible to withdraw from a tournament. Note: the entry fee will not be paid back if you withdraw from a tournament after the tournament has begun. If the tournament has not begun, the entry fee will be returned to your account.

GAME (while creating a tournament)
Select the game to compete in

LEVEL (while creating a tournament)
Select game difficulty level, track set or subgame from list.

DURATION (while starting a duel)
Duel duration: Participants play the game in the tournament mode as many times as they wish during this time. The winner will be determined by the best score made during this time.

7. Determining the the winner in tie situations

In some games the players may get the same total score in a tournament game. For example it is not uncommon to get exactly the same score in Pool as other players. In these cases there are additional rules to sort out the winner:

Super Minigolf
If the total score is a tie, the one who gets the most hole-in-ones will win. (if this does not solve the winner, then hole-in-twos will be counted, and so on)

Pool
If the total score is a tie, then the one who bagged the most balls with one shot wins. (as above, if this does not solve the tie, then the next best shots are compared, and so on)

Dualtris, Word game
If the score is the same, then the one who finishes the game in a shorter time wins.
